United Methodist Believe...

The United Methodist Church traces its roots back to the eighteenth century and the leadership of a Church of England minister named John Wesley.
Today, 8.5 million United Methodists live in the United States and another 1.5 million worldwide. The mission of the United Methodist Church is to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”
As United Methodists, we have several distinct features.
One is our emphasis on God’s grace for salvation, redemption, and its place in the whole life of faith. Our life in Christ is a gift from God and cannot be bought or earned.
We also believe that we must live our faith in the world by serving, sharing, and giving.
This “social gospel” helps us to express our faith in what we say and do.

The cross and flame symbolize the United Methodist Church.
This symbol was adopted in 1968 when the Methodist Church merged with the Evangelical United Brethren Church.
The cross represents Jesus and the flame stands for the Holy Spirit.
The two tongues of fire not only symbolize the Holy Spirit’s coming at Pentecost described in Acts 2, but also the two branches of the church that merged in 1968.
This symbol is recognizable around the world.

Our Pastor
Rev. Taeshin Kim

Welcome to our webpage!

I am honored to introduce myself to you.
My name is Taeshin Kim, but you can call me PK (Pastor Kim) if you like.
I was born and raised in Seoul, Korea, and received my Master of Divinity degree from Drew Theological School in Madison, New Jersey. I am currently serving at the blessed Warren Charge - Bennett's Chapel UMC, and Bethel UMC- as a Pastor.
Before this, from 2013-2016, I served my country, the Republic of Korea, as an Army officer, a 1st Lt. in the 5th Artillery Brigade of the Korean Army as a Platoon Leader and Battalion Signal Officer.
From 2018 through 2021, I served Simpson UMC in Old Bridge, NJ, as a Seminary Intern. I was then appointed to Heritage UMC in Lynchburg, VA, as an Associate Pastor from 2021 to the 2023. My passion is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, our risen and coming King who gives new life to us by His grace. I look forward to sharing this passion with you.

My life verse is John 21:17:
"He said to him the third time, 'Simon son of John, do you love me?'
Peter felt hurt because he said to him the third time, 'Do you love me?'
And he said to him, 'Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.'
Jesus said to him, 'Feed my sheep.'"

I am excited to meet you at Bennett's Chapel UMC and to walk with you in the days ahead.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing (not much these days!) watching basketball, riding a bicycle, cooking for people, and listening to their stories at the table.
